Differences Between Traditional Family And Modern Family

Women need to wake early to prepare breakfast for everyone in their families. On the other hand, we don't see this event a lot in modern families. Women can wake up at the same time with their husbands and don't prepare anything.

This is one example that shows the difference between traditional families and modern families in my country. I think there are a lot of differences, but I'm going to contrast only three big differences, which are size, head of family and discipline.

Home And Family

One important difference is size of family. Size of traditional families are larger than modern families. Normally they have more than ten people in their families, whereas modern families have only three to four people. Traditional families always live with their relatives and have a lot of children, which is the reason why they are big families. Another reason is their work. Traditional families are farmers. Members of families can work at their farms, therefore, they don't hire workers. They can save a lot of money.

Differences Between Traditional Family And Modern Family

In contrast, modern families don't need anyone to help their work because they work in the office. They only have one or two children and don't live with their relatives. I think this difference effects modern families because they will not know their relatives, as traditional families do. They only meet them on special occasions, such as birthdays and New Year.

For example, children aren't get used to their grandparents because they only meet them a few times per year. They will not respect them as much as they should have. I think it will become an aggressive problem in our societies because they don't know how to esteem or sympathise older people. Children won't obey or help them when they grow up. For instance, teenager don't obey their teachers, as they were little children or they won't give seats to old people when they see them in subway.

Another difference between traditional families and modern families is head of family. Men are always head of traditional families. Women usually take care of children at home, whereas men work outside. Women and children must listen and follow whenever men tell them. Men have the power to order members of their families to do everything, even if they don't like to do. For example, fathers can choose husbands for their daughters. It is not a good idea for women and children always need to believe their command, so now they're changed to modern families.

Modern families don't have the head of family because women and men are equal. Both women and men work outside. They share ideas with each other. Women and children don't obey the men's orders if they think their orders aren't correct. Women and children can decide by themselves. For example, women work outside, as men do. When women come home, they don't do house works alone because men need to help together. I think it is the positive change in our societies.

The last difference is discipline. Traditional families have many rules that directly impact their children. I think parents of traditional families are always strict because they have a lot of children to look after. It is only women who take care of children at home, so they need to have a lot of rules to control them. On the other hand, modern families have few rules to control their children. Parents of modern families work outside. They don't have enough time to take care of their children, so they don't have time to make rules also. They always spoil them. They hire someone to take care of their children while they're working outside.

This difference actually affects modern families because their children will always make problems to gain attention from their parents. For example, children don't go to school because they want their parents ask them why they do this. They want their parents talk to them. This article has presented three differences between traditional families and modern families in my country.

I think these differences can tell some development of family system from the past until now, such as taking care of children and their lives. When societies change, families also change. Both good and bad things change. People should choose only the good things to change in their families because families are important.

Self-Compassion Compass - 72 Fun and Creative Ways to Put Yourself First - Without Feeling Guilty

Are you tired of feeling like you come in last place in the race of life? Are you just plain exhausted from all the care taking, giving, protecting, working, listening, raising, and stressing you do? Do you feel guilty for indulging yourself in self care activities?

Many of us flat out FORGET that we have to put ourselves at the TOP of the "To Do" list. Or, we feel guilty for doing so. If you do not take care of yourself, who will?

Home And Family

"Taking care of yourself seems like the LAST thing you have time to do, not to mention how selfish it is! Who has the money or the time to go to the spa, anyway? That "taking care of me" stuff is for OTHER people - for people who are already relaxed and don't have anything better to do." Sound familiar?

Self-Compassion Compass - 72 Fun and Creative Ways to Put Yourself First - Without Feeling Guilty

Many people feel selfish when they think about having self compassion. They think they will become lazy, are afraid they can't do it, and think there are some things about themselves they just shouldn't accept. These are all false statements.

I want you to know that you are just as important as the person down the street. The OTHER people got rich/healthy/relaxed by taking care of themselves! The benefits of self compassion include, and are not limited to: better psychological health, reduced symptoms associated with negative affect, accuracy of self-appraisal, decreased anxiety, and better overall health.

Simply put, Self Compassion is viewing yourself with kindness. Self Compassion invites you to consider your shortcomings as part of the human condition. It exercises mindful awareness of painful thoughts and feelings. I moves you through those thoughts and feelings with loving kindness.

Self-care and compassion do not have to cost a fortune. Actually, it may cost you your life if you choose to neglect yourself. You are the one betting on your fulfillment - go all in! You will serve your self, family and community more authentically and fully when you are at the top of your "to-do" list.

Self-Compassion is easy...

Take care of yourself.

Be kind to yourself.

Accept yourself as you are.

Complete the Self Compassion journal exercises, then inventory how many of the following actions you are doing. Add one additional compassion action each week until you have lavished yourself with kindness and compassion all year long:-)

Take care of your body

Finding Your Compassionate Voice

Draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper. On the left, write down negative things you say or think about yourself. Give yourself enough time to allow that negative voice to speak. Then, close your eyes and imagine a loving hand coming to rest on your hand. This hand is an extension of the part of you that accepts you as you are. Feel the warmth of this hand as it radiates loving kindness into your own hand. Allow the feeling of kindness to envelope your entire body. Take your time, breathe, and feel the warmth of acceptance come into every cell of your body. Next, allow the loving hand to guide your own hand to the right side of the paper. What might this loving hand help you to say in response to the critical thoughts written on the other side? Allow the loving hand to guide you as you talk back to the painful, negative messages written on the left side of the page.
Take care of your spirit

1 Deepen your essence and understanding by studying spiritual writings

Being Kind to Myself

Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Focus on the word "kindness." What would it look like if you were kind to yourself - good to yourself? What would be different if you were kind to yourself? Let your mind dwell on this idea for a few minutes. The, take time to write down anything that came to your mind about what it means or what it would look like to be kind to yourself. Take a short break. Come back and look through your list. Are there things you could incorporate into your day or week that would be ways of showing kindness to yourself?

2 Engage in conversation with a long lost friend
3 Have lunch with your boss or other authority figure
4 Practice random acts of kindness weekly
5 Connect with your community

8 Use "I" messages when confronting or communicating with others
9 Make a new friend
10 Voice your nurturing voice and opinions openly
11 Develop friendships outside your work environment
12 Quickly correct miscommunications and misunderstandings

Showing Compassion to an Earlier Self

All of us have experienced painful events in our lives. Think about an earlier time in your life when you have felt particularly sad or lonely. Try to allow yourself to become gently in touch with feelings of that earlier time. Then, write a letter to that younger self that shows the compassion you have gained in the years since that painful period. What have you learned? How have you grown? What do you want that earlier self to know?
Take care of your surroundings

1 Keep a clean house; hire a maid if necessary
2 Keep the grass mowed and the flower beds blooming
3 Go through every room: if any item is not a definite keep, then give it away
4 Love your pets: wash the dog and take her to the vet
5 Balance the check book, and pay the bills on time
6 Cover your walls with beauty: paint color, art, decorations
7 Create order and a place for all your files, papers, and receipts
8 Wash the car and vacuum the inside
9 Ample lighting inside the house
10 Create space to move around inside the home
11 Be well insured: car, home, life, health
12 Keep 3 months worth of emergency savings in an easily accessible account

Making Time for Joy

Think of pleasurable activities you enjoy. If this is hard, think of things you have previously enjoyed - perhaps at earlier times in your life when you were less busy or had fewer commitments. Try to come up with pleasures from a variety of areas of your life - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. Remember these can be small pleasures - a short walk during lunch, buying a magazine you enjoy, feeding the birds, walking around a garden store or nursery. Next, indicate how much time each activity requires - a few minutes, an hour, a half day, or more. Try to come up with 20 or more pleasures, so you will have options from which to choose. Finally, pull out your calendar for tomorrow. Can you schedule two pleasurable activities for tomorrow? How about for each day of the week?

Take care of your fun

1 Buy some flowers
2 Get a facial/pedicure/manicure
3 Go skating, horseback riding, dancing
4 Hike in the woods
5 Build a snow-person or play in the Fall leaves
6 Treat yourself to Ben-n-Jerry's
7 Re-read your favorite book
8 Get a pet dog (or rock)
9 Write yourself a love letter
10 Blow bubbles and do all the "childish" things you used to love
11 Laugh often and be silly
12 Take plenty of vacation each year

Bonus Self Care Tip

Never, ever, ever work on your birthday. That day is reserved for you. Do what YOU want to do. Be lazy. Read. Be silly. Rest. Be excited. Hike. Be relaxed. Explore. Just BE.

Why Aren't You Using House Water Filters to Make Your Water Safe and Healthy?

Let's face it. There's lots unhealthy food and drinks that we all eat. It's hard to live a healthy lifestyle these days. One of the best ways to improve your health is by installing house water filters.

Home water filter systems have gotten very popular. People are more aware of the problems with public water. The only way to ensure you have pure healthy water to drink, cook, and shower in is to purify it yourself with house water filters.

Home And Family

So, you probably already know you need to filter your water. But why house water filters that purify all of the water. Why not just install one on your kitchen taps?

Why Aren't You Using House Water Filters to Make Your Water Safe and Healthy?

Toxic chemicals can enter your body by more ways than just drinking it. Showering in contaminated water is just as hazardous as drinking it. Our skin is very good at absorbing moisture. All of the chemicals in your water get absorbed into your body through your skin.

Breathing in steam from a bath or a shower is toxic to your health. The chlorine that's in your water turns to chloroform. You breathe it in when you breathe in steam. This can lead to serious respiratory problems.

Do you have dry skin and hair? It's most likely due to the chemicals in your tap water. With home water filter systems, your skin and hair will see immediate improvements.

There's lots of options available for house water filters. The best type to use is carbon filtration. It removes over 99% of all the toxic chemicals and parasites from your water. It even balances the pH levels. What you're left with is the purest form of water you can possibly get.

Reverse osmosis and distillation systems are technologies you should definitely avoid. Both remove the natural minerals found in tap water. It's been proven that drinking de-mineralized water will lead to free radicals in your body. This is very dangerous to your health as free radical can cause cancer.

Also, reverse osmosis does not remove all of the chemicals. It cannot remove any contaminant that has smaller molecules than water. This means that toxins like pesticides and pharmaceutical drugs pass right through it. So, you end up with water that sill has toxins and has all the healthy minerals removed.

Carbon house water filters are the best. They not only provide you with pure water but it will also taste great too. Typically, they are less expensive and easier to install than reverse osmosis and distillation systems.

So, go ahead and check out carbon house water filters today. Getting pure, healthy water is critical to the health of you and your family.

Why Aren't You Using House Water Filters to Make Your Water Safe and Healthy?

Mark LeBreton is an advocate for safe, clean and healthy filtered water. He frequently discusses important topics like house water filters [http://clear-drinking-water.com]. Find out what he recommends as the only water filtration system to use in your home at [http://clear-drinking-water.com].

When I first ventured into beekeeping, like many beginners, I made the mistake of poor preparation. Let me tell you from experience, having quality plans will save you a significant amount of time and money.

Bee Hive Plans - Building The Best Bee Hive

One of the reasons I decided to make this article to begin with, was because the internet results under "bee hive plans" were rather disappointing. Many of the top results were either extremely difficult to follow, or made for the sole purpose of generating revenue from advertisements. However don't be discouraged, I want to show you high quality, easy to follow plans which are perfect for beekeeping.

Bee Hive Plans

A couple of months ago I stumbled upon an online bee hive guide through a popular beekeeping forum. Me being a beekeeper, I was really curious to see what the fuss was all about. I ended up purchasing a copy myself and I was extremely impressed. The measurements of the diagrams were very precise and easy to follow, I honestly couldn't fault any of it. Whenever I'm asked for bee hive plans now, this is the first guide I provide and I've seen really good results.

If your keen to get started on your own bee hive, and would like access to step by step plans, then check out the website at the bottom.

No matter what decision you make, well done for taking this first step. With the current shortage of honey bees, the more beekeepers the better! It's definitely one of the more rewarding hobbies out there, and it's so worth it in the end.

Happy Beekeeping!

Family structure, like society at large, has undergone significant changes. Most of the time when a person imagine of the definition of a family, the figure of a mother, father and children is what comes into the mind. The form or structure does not show how healthy the it is or how they function.

Structures are the substantial makeup of the members in relationship to each other without respect to roles and function. There are famous four types of a families structure; Nuclear, Single Parent, Extended, and Childless. These four types of family structure give the variety of forms they may appear to.

Home And Family

The first structure from the four types of is Nuclear. A nuclear family consists of a mother, father, and their biological or adoptive descendants, often called the traditional family. This was the most admired from the four types of structure. It can be can be a fostering environment in which to hoist children as long as there is love, time spent with children, emotional support, low stress, and a constant economic upbringing.

The 4 Essential Types of Family Structure

The second structure from the four types of family structure is the Single Parent. Its one most outstanding transform from the four types of family structure was the amplified of Single Parent. Children are most likely to live in a single parent structure for reasons other than the death of a parent.

One in four children is born with their mothers not married, usually teenage mothers. One of the most luxurious things for a single parent is child care. Single families frequently have less pressure compared to the pressure in families before divorce. Usually parents and children are more eager to work together with each other to find solutions to solve household chores in single parent families.

The third structure from the four types of structure is the Extended Family. Extended family is two or more adults from unlike generations of a family, who share a household. Stop the Eating Out Cycle - The Benefits of Eating at Home

Healthy Reasons For Eating In

If you are searching for an easier way to achieve a healthy lifestyle for you and your family, one of the most effective ways is to prepare home-cooked meals. Here are some useful hints.

Home And Family

With our time being at a premium, eating at home is very often exchanged with on the go meals at fast food or casual dining dining establishments. Not only are these choices usually more taxing on the wallet than eating in, but also less healthy. You can dramatically increase the health benefits by eating at home.

Stop the Eating Out Cycle - The Benefits of Eating at Home

Eating at Home Puts You in Control

Eating at home has numerous health benefits, but most importantly it gives you the choice of what ingredients you decide to include or omit in your meals. Have you ever glanced at what a burger at a fast food restaurant is made with- there can be tons of ingredients, some with names you've never heard of or cannot pronounce. When you cook at home, you can keep your foods natural and whole.

Do You Have Special Dietary Needs?

Another health benefit of eating in is that if you have special dietary needs such as limitations on fat in your foods, you can conveniently fix dishes that accommodate your health needs. No need to fret if the restaurant has a low fat dish or if there is any extra sugar included in a meal.

Portion Control

One of the reasons that many people have gained weight is due to the portions that many casual dining restaurants serve you. They are much larger than necessary. If you eat in, you can choose the appropriate amounts for you and your loved ones, reducing excessive food intake.

Food Allergens

When you eat at home, you can be more mindful in preparing foods, especially if you or a loved one has a food allergy. Food allergies many times can be serious and possibly even fatal. Preparing food at home can eliminate the risk of an allergic reaction to allergic food reaction.

Quality Time

Another benefit to dining in is the quality of time spent together. Everyone likes to be taken care of once in a while so it's okay to eat out for special events. However, preparing home-cooked meals allows you to spend quality time with family. Each person can take part in meal preparation so it's a shared event. By allowing children to participate in meal planning and cooking you are teaching them valuable self-sufficiency skills. The ambiance is more conducive to talking.

Make a commitment to prepare more home-cooked meals. The benefits of preparing a home-cooked meal exceed the time it takes to prepare a home-cooked meal. Your family will thank you in the end.

Home Remedies For Baby Eczema

If your baby is suffering from eczema, you know how uncomfortable the itchy and dry skin can be, not to mention the sore spots. Since eczema usually goes hand in hand with sensitive skin, treating it can be a bit of a challenge. Thankfully there are quite a few home remedies for baby eczema you can try.

Moisturize

Home And Family

Keeping baby's skin well moisturized should always be the first step in any eczema treatment. Use a natural aloe Vera lotion several times a day, especially after bathing baby. Reapply as often as need to keep baby's skin from drying out. Avoid any harsh cleansers and make sure baby is getting plenty to drink to moisturize from the inside out as well. Incidentally breastfed babies experience fewer and milder episodes of eczema.

Home Remedies For Baby Eczema

Oatmeal Bath

When baby's skin gets very itchy, an oatmeal bath can be very soothing and help skin heal. Put two cups of oats in a food processor (or use a coffee grinder) and grind them into a powder. Add the oatmeal powder to a running bath of warm (not hot) water and stir well. Soak in the oatmeal bath for 15 minutes, rinse with clean water and dab the skin dry with a soft towel. When baby's eczema breakouts are bad, it is safe to sooth them with an oatmeal bath twice daily.

Natural Skin Wash

As mentioned above, you want to avoid any harsh skin care for baby. The following natural skin wash is very gently and helps with the itch. Combine 1 tsp of comfrey root, 1 tsp of white oak bark, 1 tsp of slippery elm bark and two cups of water in a bowl. Mix well, and then pour it into a pot. Heat over medium heat until it comes to a boil, and then simmer for thirty minutes. Allow the mixture to cool, then strain out the solids and use the liquid like any face wash.

While this mixture may not completely clear up baby's eczema, it is a natural, gentle and effective cleanser that will help reduce the itching and inflammation.

Healing Lotions

When eczema really flares up, you want to get baby's skin healed back up as soon as possible. Healing lotions can help shorten the healing time and moisturize and protect your skin from future outbreaks at the same time.

Lotions to look for ate those made with blueberry leaves. Blueberry leaves are very good at relieving the inflammation of eczema and at improving the irritation that accompanies itching.

Zinc is another great ingredient. Apply zinc lotion directly on the affected area. Zinc can also be taken as a supplement in pills. Taking regularly, it can be an effective eczema treatment.

To help heal the skin, use a lotion containing vitamin E, or apply vitamin E oil directly on the affected area. It will quickly reduce itching and improve healing. Continue applying the vitamin E oil until the skin is healed.

Reduce Irritants

Some babies experience eczema because they are allergic to detergents, which are found in nearly all personal care, cleaning and laundry products. You may want to investigate using pure soap for all cleaning and laundry as well as bathing for some time to see if your baby's eczema improves.

Eczema can also occur as a result of food allergies. If you have a family history of food or environmental allergy, your baby may also be experiencing sensitivities to something in his diet or environment. Check with your baby's health care provider and consider an elimination diet or other measures to track down allergens.

Typically, babies outgrow eczema, or at the very least, it will improve as he gets older.

This article is provided for information purposes only. Please consult your baby's health care provider before trying home remedies.

How Can Cute Squirrels Be So Dangerous?

Squirrels are cute, whimsical and fun to watch. However, squirrels can also be a pain in the butt. They can root up your bulbs, clean out your bird seed and get in your house.

But how can they be dangerous?

Home And Family

It's all because of two things: first, they get into your house, and two, they like to chew.

How Can Cute Squirrels Be So Dangerous?

Squirrels move into your attic for a variety of reasons. Maybe it is near their food (since they like to live near their food) or maybe they need to make a nest to live (or have a family) or maybe it is because they found an opening into your attic - a place which is warm, dry and protected.

Well, it doesn't really matter why they are there. It's just that they are there.

This is a problem because squirrels love to chew. In fact it is a necessity for them to chew constantly and to chew anything. If they didn't, their teeth would grow too big for their mouths. So their natural bent is to chew and chew and chew.

Now consider this. If you have a squirrel living in your attic, what is it going to eat or chew? It may start by making a nest. Maybe you have some important papers or clothes in the attic. They would make a nice nest.

Now the squirrel needs some entertainment. So it might start chewing on your prized possession or antiques? (sometimes squirrels are not too picky in what they chew.)

Well, let's say you don't have anything like that in your attic. Even so, there are many more things it could start chewing and these are most likely something made from wood - like your floor, siding, studs, rafters,... (not cheap things to fix or repair).

What else is in most attics and is usually not very well concealed and sometimes laying right out in the open? Electric wiring!

Squirrels obviously don't know any better, so if it looks interesting or is in their way, they will chew it. Sadly, it is a known fact that many squirrels have chewed electrical wiring and have started many a house fire in the process. This is why allowing those cute critters in your attic is extremely dangerous.

The fear of having an attic fire should only be one concern of having squirrels in your attic. Attic squirrels are also bad because they can:

1.) make it easier to get into your main living area,
2.) if they have a family, your problems (like chewing) is mutiplied by 4 or 5 times,
3.) squirrels bring bugs, ticks or mites in your house which can spread into your living area, and
4.) their urine and feces can lead to health problems.

All this means is that you need to get rid of the squirrels (if they are there already) or prevent them from coming in (if they are not there yet.). The best way to start is to make sure all openings in your attic are properly closed. This will go a long way to keeping them out.

To learn more about getting rid of squirrels (or at least getting them under control), you need The Definitive Guide to Controlling Squirrels. This guide will give you all the basics and can be found at http://www.ControllingSquirrels.com

How to Profit from Your Own Hand-Crafted Jewelry

Making and Selling Bead Jewelry From Home for Extra Income

Home Jewelry making with beads is becoming more and more popular. The recession is forcing imaginative individuals to make extra income by designing and crafting their own jewelry.

Gone are the days when jewelry could only be created by professional designers. Today, there's an increasing trend of people with a desire to express their creativity by making their own, both for themselves and to sell. The internet accelerates this - with fast-information of fashion, design, and the availability of beads and findings.

Anyone with a creative streak can go online to follow the process through - from design, to buying the materials, to selling the finished jewelry. All they need is a desire to complete their ideas.

Some leave high-flying corporate jobs when they discover jewelry making. Stress of the rat race is replaced by the almost-spiritual experience of creating jewelry. Even children take to making bangles with Troll beads. More for fun than a fad, but encouraged by their parents to expand their creativity. Family Structure in China

China has changed greatly in recent years, including the changing of family structure. A traditional Chinese family generally consists of at least two generations of people including husband and wife and children and there universally exists the phenomenon of three generations, four generations and even five generations living under the same roof. A big family is often held in great esteem.

However, along with social progress and epochal change, the size and structure of traditional Chinese families have undergone changes. Small size, simple structure and diversified patterns of families have become the main features of modern Chinese families. Since the introduction of the reform and opening-up policy, to adapt to changes in the mode of social production and the style of life, traditional families of complicated structure and big size have been gradually transformed into families of simple structure and small size. Mr. Guo, a resident living in Beijing, Tianshuiyuan, said, "When I was young, I had a family of 12 members, including my parents, my grandparents, as well as eight brothers and sisters. I was the youngest in my family. Now I have a family of three with only one child." Nowadays, more and more adults are moving out, leaving their elder parents alone. Many young couples now live with their parents not for family tradition, but rather because they cannot afford to buy a house or rent an apartment.

Home And Family

A nationwide survey found that about 23 percent of China's seniors over the age of 65 live by themselves. Another survey conducted in Beijing showed that less than 50 percent old elderly women live with their children. Since more and more elderly have to live alone, homes for the elderly are far from being enough to meet the needs of the elderly.

Family Structure in China

So, if you come to China and find a big family, which maybe is a very rare phenomenon now. You can ask them the reason and know some interesting stories about this family.

How To Get Rid Of Cockroaches Fast - Without Poisoning Your Family

Cockroaches. The first thing you think of when you see one in your home is how to get rid of them as fast as possible. Roaches are nasty little pests that breed fast and can move in and out of tiny cracks and crevices - they actually prefer tight spaces.

Roaches have lived along side human beings throughout history. The conditions in our homes are ideal for cockroaches: warm, most, and with plenty of food laying around.

Home And Family

Cockroaches are nasty creatures. They leave a trail of filth behind them and shed their exoskeletons as they grow (seeing these sheddings in your home is often the first sign of a cockroach infestation.) They need water more than food, but can go weeks without either. For every one you see there can be as many as 100 others you can't see. They cause allergic reactions and increase the risk of asthma to children.

How To Get Rid Of Cockroaches Fast - Without Poisoning Your Family

The first instinct that many people have when they learn they have a cockroach infestation is to run out and buy every kind of poison they can find to kill them all. They use bug-bombs, roach traps, roach baits, roach sprays, and roach gels to carpet bomb their home. The problem is, this stuff isn't good for people either and roaches breed so fast they can become immune to poisons. In fact, what usually happens is they avoid the poisoned areas until you stop the treatments and then they move back in.

To truly eradicate a cockroach infestation, you must take a comprehensive approach to pest control.

First, you must seal off their access to your home. This means aggressively filling every tiny crack and crevice in your home with silicon caulk. Start in the kitchen and bathrooms and pay special attention to the spaces around water pipes and drains. Seal the insides of your kitchen cabinets and along all of the wall trim. This can take many hours, but will really pay off.

Next, clear up the clutter to take away their places to live. Get rid of paper and boxes and clean up clutter.

Now, you need to remove the food supply and water supply. Do a thorough cleaning in your kitchen and use a de-greaser to get all of the surfaces clean. Fix any dripping faucets or other leaks. Put food into plastic containers or zipper lock bags and remove empty food and beverage cans from your home immediately.

Once you have sealed and cleaned, lay down some roach traps along the walls in areas where you suspect roaches. Monitor the traps daily. This will allow you determine where they are coming from and what type of roaches you are dealing with.

Now it's time to use some products to kill the roaches and some repellents to drive them out of your home and keep them out.

Top Ten House Alarm and Home Security Devices

A man's home is his castle, as the saying goes. But homes today don't normally feature ramparts, drawbridges, moats and six-foot thick stone walls to keep out unwanted visitors. Today, a house alarm, and preferably a managed home security system, is needed to ensure your home's security. Not only does installing a home security system improve the safety of your family and possessions, but it can also decrease your home insurance costs. The Top Ten House Alarm and Home Security Devices list highlights ten devices and features of home security systems that can make your house a safer place.

The Top Ten

Home And Family

10. Talking Devices help you to understand the status of your home and monitoring as well as program the system. Some security systems feature talking master control panels, key pads or remotes. The talking feature may not result in great conversation, but it will help you understand your system a little better.

9. Some home alarm systems include extras like Key Fobs and Remotes to control the system at a distance. Somewhat similar to a car's key fob, home security key fobs include buttons to activate and deactivate the house alarm system. Some even include a "panic" button that activates the house alarm and alerts the proper authorities in the event of an emergency. Remote controls are similar and often larger. The features of remotes vary greatly and can include a full key pad, a talking feature and a panic button as well.

8. Yard Signs and House or Window Decals advertise your home's protection. The Greenwich Study of Residential Security found that homes without alarms were 2.7 to 3.5 times more likely to be burglarized, and that the most effective deterrent was the alarm monitoring company's yard sign (SIA Research Update, Security Industry Association, October 2001). Some choose to post the signs to deter possible break-ins without actually installing a home alarm system. While this effort will lower the odds of an attempted burglary, a yard sign alone cannot fully protect your home.

7. A Back-Up Power Supply is important in maintaining home security even during a power outage, when the risk of break-ins and looting is increased. Your home alarm should be effective even when your power is not. The easiest to maintain back-up power supplies use standard size batteries. Look for a model that uses rechargeable batteries to lower your maintenance costs.

6. Smoke Detectors add another layer of protection to your home, especially when they are integrated into the home alarm system. Not only do smoke detectors indicate a fire and give you time to escape safely, but when included in a home security package, they automatically notify the managing company and the fire department. Some systems even integrate the power supply to the smoke detectors. That means you don't have to change the batteries ever!

5. Wireless Systems protect your home without adding extra cords to trip over or extensive installation of in-wall cords. In wireless house alarm systems, each sensor or keypad communicates with the master control panel via radio frequencies or existing wiring in your home. A burglar will never be able to disarm the system by snipping the wires. This ensures the system is fully integrated and monitoring all parts of your home without using up your outlets or creating an obstacle course of wires for you.

4. Extra Key Pads are also important. Exterior mounted key pads can provide secure keyless entry to your family. Some systems also offer remote control key pads which are lightweight and portable. A home alarm system that features a security code with a key pad increases the security of your home. A monitored system can also lock down entry after several repeated, failed attempts at entry which indicate a possible break-in attempt.

3. Key pads may not always be enough to keep burglars out. Sensors on Windows and Doors reduce the risk of a burglar entering undetected and are a key part of a home alarm system. Motion Detectors within the home also increase the level of security. The most sophisticated motion detectors include a feature to ignore pets' movement to avoid constantly setting the alarm off inadvertently.

2. Installation, Monitoring, and Repair Services increase not only the level of safety but the convenience of keeping your home safe. A house alarm alone cannot notify the police or fire department in the event of an emergency. The most complete systems include buttons to notify police departments, fire departments and medical help instantly. Another advantage offered by the best monitoring companies is live customer support and full service installation and repair of the system by employees who have been background checked, licensed and drug tested to ensure your safety. Finally, some companies even offer relocation services to keep you secure even when you move.

1. The classic Master Control Panel is vital to any home alarm system. The central hub of the system, the control panel is usually wall-mounted in an easily accessible place. The panel receives information from all other sensors and key pads, computes it, and transmits relevant information to the monitoring company. If you choose to arm the system from the panel when you leave the house, the master control panel also receives the disarm code when you return home. Some can even be disarmed by telephone!

Of course, this list is not comprehensive, and the needs of every home and homeowner are different. For more tips on choosing the right home alarm system and features to protect your house, I recommend visiting alarmoneinc.com.
